'Love can be either true or never love at all'- author Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva

"Love remains undefined is based on a true account of two strangers. I had started the narration on my Facebook official page but suddenly the protagonist suggested me to bring it out as a book as it had caught the attention of many readers.

The idea behind writing this book was actually to present something different than the contemporary Indian English writers. I wanted to give the readers a unique style of writing blended with the characteristics of post-modern literature."- author Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva.

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva recently launched her novel 'Love Remains Undefined'. The novel is written on the lines of Post Modern Literature although not strictly sticking to the principles. When two hearts are destined to meet, impossibilities turn into possibilities. A story within a story, Love Remains Undefined is a true account of two strangers, who become Facebook friends and finally become more than friends, only to keep the end unpredictable.

Intellectual conversations lead to personal ones, and the story tells another story to the readers. Their conversations continue, with few promises, sacrificing their desires. She pushes him away in fear, and he embraces silence in the hope of meeting her one day.
The identities of the protagonists remain untold till the end, allowing readers to work on multiple endings.

In an exclusive interview with Readersland.comMousumi Kalita Sachdeva tells us her journey as an author and future goals.

Excerpts:

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva
RL: How did the writing bug bite you?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: The bug was in me perhaps when I landed on this earth but it took time to bite me. My first poem was published when I was in the third standard and that marked my journey to the land of writing. Since my childhood, the pen used to invite me every time at the cost of studying for exams too. I love to speak in verse rather than in normal words. The world around me, the truth I see, the emotions I feel can best be expressed only through written words. I could find no one since my childhood to express my feelings or emotions or whatever I loved and detested. This vacuity inspired me to pen down my heart’s desires and the mind followed the heart.

Gradually I started writing for newspapers and writing became my passion.

College magazines carried my name with researched articles and the bug infected me completely. During my university days and during my course of Mass Communication and Journalism, I learned to polish my skills and continued my contributions to the newspapers. I have been the editor of school magazines and E-Magazines of International Schools too and I am also a contributing writer in two popular newspapers of Jammu and Kashmir- Daily Excelsior and Early Times.  Prior to this novel, I have edited an Anthology titled, ‘Zindagi Rewind’ which is a collection of stories and poems by seventeen authors and seventeen poets including me. I am a poet by nature and write for many national and international blogs. And the journey continues never to end till I become motionless..haha..

RL: What was the idea behind writing 'Love Remains Undefined'?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: Love remains undefined is based on a true account of two strangers. I had started the narration on my Facebook official page but suddenly the protagonist suggested me to bring it out as a book as it had caught the attention of many readers.

The idea behind writing this book was actually to present something different than the contemporary Indian English writers. I wanted to give the readers a unique style of writing blended with the characteristics of post-modern literature.

RL: How closely it shows the relationship of human being with regards to 'True Love'?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: True love is an absurd term. Love can be either true or never love at all.

The title may give you the hint of a normal love story but it is something above love. It undoubtedly projects human relationship but you will realize the truth whether it is a bond of love, friendship or bond only after you complete reading the book.

RL: Please tell us more about your book 'Love Remains Undefined'?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva:  Love Remains Undefined is a novel written on the lines of Post Modern Literature although not strictly sticking to the principles. We find a story within a story where the identities of the protagonists remain unveiled till the end and allowing the readers to work on multiple endings. It is a true account of two strangers meeting on a social platform, who become more than friends only to keep the end unpredictable.

RL: Are you working on any other project?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: Plans are more and future is yet to see me. I am writing my next book which is again very unique and never heard tale. It is true and extremely complicated as listening to just one character and creating a novel out of it is challenging as it has many stories within one story. ‘Love Remains Undefined’ would be a movie soon. The story is selected by a South Indian Movie Director. I’m also working on another movie project with him. I am also writing a book which is a collection of true stories again. Let’s see what is awaited for me!

RL: Who is your favourite author and why?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: Very honestly speaking, my love for reading began with Mills and Boons. And I graduated after reading hundreds of Mills and Boons love stories. I love to read Salman Rushdie as I find his post-modern literature very interesting. I also love to read Jane Austen because women triumphed in Austen's books. One can find the taste of love, prejudice, and humour with practical pictures.

RL: Do you believe in Love? Given a choice, what would you choose- love or passion?

Mousumi Kalita Sachdeva: Can passion be built without love? Love is still a mystifying term for me. I would surely choose love which has the power to make passion more intense.
